Fentanyl Education

Education is key to combatting the fentanyl crisis, as it empowers individuals and communities to make informed choices, promotes harm reduction strategies, and aids in preventing the misuse of fentanyl. By prioritizing education, we can take a proactive education approach to address the risks associated with fentanyl and work toward a safer future.

Districtwide

• Parent Education in November and December presented by Sgt. Gunsolley from OC Sheriff’s Department and OC Health Agency.
• NMUSD collaborated with Costa Mesa and Newport Beach Police to provide training to all secondary school certificated employees. Elementary certificated employees were trained separately by Health Services.

Elementary

• OC Sheriff Sgt. Gunsolley to provide fentanyl education.
• Elementary teachers trained on fentanyl crisis and response.
• Classified employees also will be trained using online modules.

Secondary

• In-class fentanyl video to be shown to all secondary students before Winter Break.
• OC Sheriff Sgt. Gunsolley will do a video presentation to all secondary students and parents in the Spring
• Waymakers is working with Costa Mesa and TeWinkle Middle Schools on alcohol and drug education.
• All secondary teachers trained on Narcan with the support of Costa Mesa and Newport Beach Police Departments.
• Youth-led activities surrounding healthy living and prevention.
